(Architectural) Image Discourses at the Former Nazi Party Rally Grounds in Nuremberg
The former Nazi Party Rally Grounds in Nuremberg is one of the largest Nazi architectural sites, covering 16.5 km2. From 1933 to 1938, the annual Nazi Party rallies were held here. Since 1974 the monumental buildings of the area are under monumental protection.
The city of Nuremberg has two major plans for the next few years. On the one hand, it is applying to become the European Capital of Culture in 2025, and on the other, it wants to renovate the Zeppelin Grandstand and other parts of the former Nazi Party Rally grounds
The artistic project ICON:PARTY:RALLY:GROUNDS is part of a larger research project on the connection between aesthetics and politics, starting from the Nuremberg Nazi Party Rally Grounds. The aim of the project is a contemporary remembering through the creation of a physically present, public thinking space on site, in which the meaning and possibilities of dealing with (urban) architectural relics of the Nazi era are discussed together.
