Summerschool Kharkiv Housing Challenge 2024
Kick-Off Workshop July 3rd, 4th
Since July 2024, students from TU Wien have been working on proposals for the retrofit of a housing estate in Kharkiv as part of the “Kharkiv Housing Challenge 2024 Summer School”. The Norman Foster Foundation has launched an international competition with the aim of developing prototype design concepts for retrofitting and upgrading the war-damaged prefabricated housing estate Saltivka in the north of Kharkiv, Ukraine.
Specifically, the aim is to develop modular systems for buildings and open spaces that can be used selectively to renovate existing prefabricated buildings, rebuild destroyed prefabricated buildings and upgrade public spaces.
The criteria of the competition are an integral part of the Summer School, which started with a workshop at TU Wien on July 3rd and 4th.
20 architecture students are taking part in the Kharkiv Housing Challenge 2024 summer school under the didactic supervision of Norbert Trolf, Department of Landscape and Andreas Hofer, Department of Urbanism, as well as several guest critics.
Completion is planned for September 2024.
